There are several factors that affect print permanence, including light, water, temperature, humidity and pollutants. While manufacturers usually provide lightfastness or print permanence ratings, not all use the same industry-accepted test methods. Epson professional imaging inks and papers are subjected to a comprehensive, eight-factor print permanence testing process by Wilhelm Imaging Research (WIR), the world’s leading independent permanence testing laboratory.
Data accumulated by WIR indicates that select Signature Worthy and all Legacy Papers, when used with Epson UltraChrome HD, UltraChrome HDX, PRO10 and PRO12 Inks, can provide print permanence ratings of up to 200 years for color prints and up to 400 years for black-and-white prints in indoor conditions. Third-party products may not yield the same lightfastness results. That’s why, for optimal longevity and quality, we recommend using Epson-branded products.
